Support Life Services: Decent, affordable and easily accessible housing for people with disabilities. There are two main types of

Life Support Services:

• When a person lives in the same house or lives in a small apartment with other people and is supported by a caregiver to meet their needs; about 24 hours a day. In this system, the support a person receives is provided in a residential environment, this is called a local based support.

• When a person lives in his own place, or has an apartment in the middle of a group of similar buildings. The person receives daily or weekly support to meet his or her needs, which may be for a few hours to the caregiver. This program is called floating, or access support.

How can you get a supported life?

To set up or deploy a personalized life service you will need the support of someone like a social worker or caregiver. They will determine whether she is eligible for support and whether living with support will suit her needs.

Some have been in the hospital for years but are now enjoying their place in the community. Health inequalities among adults with developmental disabilities are also growing.
